Physical education at Gidea Park

We believe that PE is essential to school life and, at Gidea Park College, we aim to create opportunities for each child to develop their physical and aquatic skills through enjoyable and challenging PE lessons. Our aim is to improve co-ordination, movement, co-operation and performance through a varied and extensive curriculum. We also aim to create an understanding of the values and ideals of good sportsmanship and to foster the notion that sport is a lifestyle choice which encourages participation and develops self-esteem.

Our main team sports are football, cricket, netball and rounders and House Trophies are awarded in these. We also have House Swimming and Sports Day Trophies. Athletics, swimming, dance/movement, yoga and outdoor pursuits are also part of the curriculum.

Lessons are taught by qualified and enthusiastic teachers and sports coaches throughout the school. The school has a hall for indoor events, extensive grounds for football, rounders and netball, and access to a swimming pool, cricket ground and local park for cross-country. There are extra-curricular clubs and activities which provide additional opportunities for pupils.

Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.
